Commercial aircraft registration
Who can apply to register an aircraft.
An aircraft can be entered on the UK Register of Civil Aircraft either under the name of the aircraft owner or the charterer by demise. For full details of the legislation around registration of aircraft in the UK, see Articles 24 to 32 of the Air Navigation Order 2016.
Note that the registration process is separate from the requirements to gain a Certificate of Airworthiness (C of A) or Permit to Fly (P to F).
New owners are reminded that once they become the owner of a UK Registered aircraft that they are responsible for ensuring that the aircraft is fully maintained and operated in line with the requirements of the C of A or P to F.
Charter by demise:
If a Charterer by demise meets the eligibility criteria (as per Article 26 paragraph 1 of the Air Navigation Order 2016), the aircraft can be registered even if the legal owner does not qualify under the eligibility criteria.
(4) If an aircraft is chartered by demise to a person qualified under Article 26 paragraph 1 of the Air Navigation Order 2016 the CAA may, whether or not an unqualified person is entitled as owner to a legal or beneficial interest in the aircraft, register the aircraft in the United Kingdom in the name of the charterer by demise if it is satisfied that the aircraft may otherwise be properly registered.

New Aircraft, Registrations and Changes of Marks will usually take up to three working days.
By prior arrangement with the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA), aircraft can be registered outside of normal office hours. This is usually required when aircraft are being delivered from abroad.
Note that we will need to be provided with all relevant information in order to register your aircraft. This service is subject to the same day service fee and should be requested using the SRG1750 form.
The same day service is on request, which should be made at the time of initial application. Documents are worked to a same day turnaround from receipt of customer request by 11:00 to completion of the processing of the application by 16:30 on the same working day. This is subject to all information being submitted and all queries answered within this timeframe.
