The new Civil Aviation Authority website

On 9 June, we launched a new UK Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) website. This marks the first step in a wider programme to improve how we support and engage with our customers online.

Why we upgraded the CAA website

The CAA website is one of our most important digital services. It’s where people come to understand our role, manage professional licences, find regulatory guidance and access essential aviation information.

We have upgraded the website to make it clearer, easier to use and better aligned with the needs of the people who rely on it.

A simpler, more modern design

The new design is cleaner, more modern and easier to read. It has been shaped by user testing and built in line with GOV.UK, creating a consistent experience with other public sector services.

This approach reduces visual clutter and helps users focus on what matters most. It also ensures the site feels familiar and trustworthy, particularly for people who regularly use government websites.

Easier to find what you need

User feedback made it clear that finding information on the previous site could be challenging. Over time, content had grown in ways that made navigation more complex than necessary.

The new site structure simplifies how information is organised and presented. Clearer menus, improved signposting and consistent page layouts help users reach the right content more quickly, whether they are members of the public, pilots, operators or industry professionals.

Better on mobile and more accessible

More people now access the CAA website on mobile devices. The redesigned site responds smoothly across phones, tablets and desktop computers, delivering a consistent experience on any screen.

Accessibility has been a priority. Enhancements include clearer typography, improved colour contrast, more consistent layouts and better support for assistive technologies.

A clearer, more user-friendly website supports transparency, builds trust and helps people engage more effectively with the CAA and the work we do.

Delivered in-house and cost-effective

This work has been delivered in-house, using existing resources. This allowed us to make meaningful improvements in a cost-effective way, while directly addressing known user issues and improving accessibility.

What’s next

This redesign is just the beginning. We are continuing to enhance search, making it easier for users to find the right information quickly.

Our data will be presented more clearly, and we will continue to refine content so visits to our website are more intuitive.

We will keep listening to feedback and making further improvements to ensure CAA.co.uk continues to meet the needs of its users.
