Protecting aviation

The CAA provides advice and assistance to the Department for Transport in ensuring that an appropriate regulatory framework is in place to protect against potential threats to aviation within the UK.

Our work includes:

  • Developing detailed regulatory requirements and guidance to support the regulated aviation industry in applying appropriate and effective security controls.
  • Continuous review of the security measures in place, working in partnerships with the sector, to ensure they are appropriate, proportionate and effective, taking account of the evolving threat picture and of the opportunities presented by new technologies.

It encompasses physical, personnel and cyber security, and applies to airport, airline, air cargo, in-flight catering and other ancillary operations.
