Guidance to Air Traffic Controllers who either exchanged their UK ATCO licence for an EU Member State ATCO licence or those ATCOs who hold a UK licence which was issued before the introduction of UK Regulation (EU) 2015/340.

During the UK membership of the EU some air traffic controllers exchanged their UK ATCO licence for an EU Member State ATCO licence to enable them to work in that Member State.

EU Regulation 2015/340 the ATCO Licensing regulation was introduced into law in 2015. At that time the CAA issued new licenses to all ATCOs employed within the UK. They were not issued to ATCOs working outside the UK.

In either case ATCOs who wish to have their UK ATCO licence reissued should follow the process below.

How do I apply?

Applications for the reissue of a UK Air Traffic Controller’s licence are made to the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA), Air Traffic Service (ATS) Licensing Assessment department on  Form SRG 1411F.

Along with the application form please provide proof of identity e.g. A certified copy of a valid passport, EU National identity Card or full photographic driving licence.

How much does it cost?

The cost of the reissue of an Air Traffic Controller (ATCO) licence is detailed in the Official Record Series ORS 5 - Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) Scheme of Charges (Personnel Licensing).

What else do I need to know

Ratings and licence endorsement obtained in an EU Member State or other third country will not be transferable to the reissued UK licence. The reissued licence will only show those ratings and licence endorsements that were obtained in the UK.

Where evidence of English Language Proficiency (ELP) Level 6 cannot be ascertained the replacement licence will be issued with a level 4 ELP.

Incorrect or incomplete application forms may delay the issue of the licence.

How long will it take for my application to be processed?

Applications for the reissue of an Air Traffic Controller (ATCO) Licence will normally be processed within 10 working days, although for administrative reasons, this may not always be possible.

The Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) Licensing Assessment will contact you if there are any queries regarding your application.

What happens next?

After checking that the application is in order, the application will then be processed, the licence produced and dispatched to the applicant’s address.
