These are published by the CAA on our UK Regulations pages. EU Regulations and EASA Access Guides published by EASA no longer apply in the UK. Any references to EU law and EASA Access guides should be disregarded and where applicable the equivalent UK versions referred to instead.

The North Atlantic (NAT) is the busiest of all oceanic airspace; direct pilot-controller communication is limited and radar surveillance is generally unavailable. Flight within NAT HLA airspace is only available with the required approval.

The exact dimensions of the NAT HLA airspace are stated within The Air Navigation Order & Regulations.

The ICAO North Atlantic Operation Manual provides the best source of guidance and information for those planning operations in NAT hla airspace.

Completed CAA Form CA 4040 should be emailed to navapprovals@caa.co.uk. At present, no charge is made for NAT HLA Approval for AOC holders. Applicants should also inform their assigned Flight Operations Inspector.
