In European law periods of validity of ratings are given as 1 or 2 years depending on the rating but the regulation also states when calculating validity that it ‘shall extend to the end of the relevant month’. In 2012 the opportunity was taken to align United Kingdom law with European law in relation to the periods of validity given to ratings in United Kingdom licences. The CAA has been made aware that that this was not achieved for the ratings specified in this exemption. This exemption is issued to permit that alignment for the specified ratings.
