UK policy for the revalidation and renewal of SFI authorisations and TRI ratings was developed by reference to JAR-FCL. The revalidation and renewal process always involved some element of assessment of the instructor’s skill, either during an examiner’s EAAC or by a separate observation by a TRIE or SE. Part-FCL requires SFIs and TRIs to revalidate their instructor certificate by satisfying the requirements detailed in FCL.940.TRI or FCL.940.SFI. To ensure that the revalidation and renewal processes for both SFIs and TRIs satisfy the EASA requirements, and are practicably applicable, the UK has determined the following policy. FCL.940 – SFI and TRI certificates shall be valid for a period of 3 years.
