CAA Information Notice IN 2011/087 notified of the publication of Commission Regulation (EU) No 805/2011, effective on 30 August 2011, which lays down detailed rules for air traffic controllers’ licences and training. This new Regulation repeals Directive 2006/23 (the ‘ATCO Licensing Directive’) but introduces no substantive changes from those provisions set-out previously in the Directive, which was implemented in the UK by Part 24 and Schedule 10 of the UK Air Navigation Order (ANO) 2009. Student and full ATCO licences and medical certificates issued in accordance with the Directive will remain valid; however, issue of new licences and medical certificates may only be done in accordance with Regulation 805/2011 by the competent authority nominated by the State for that purpose.
