Airspace Policy Concept - Airspace Requirements for the Integration of Beyond Visual Line of Sight (BVLOS) Unmanned Aircraft

The purpose of this document is to present an airspace policy concept that describes a pathway forward to deliver the Airspace Modernisation Strategy’s vision of integrating beyond visual line of sight (BVLOS) unmanned aircraft flight.
The concept utilises specific types of airspace structures to transition from segregated BVLOS operations, through the managed accommodation of a varied range of airspace operations, toward the ultimate objective of enabling integrated, unsegregated operations for all airspace users.

The CAA has published a revised version of CAP 1616, Airspace Change Process, which implements the latest government policy set out in the Air Navigation Directions 2026 and the Air Navigation Guidance 2026. These changes come into effect on 1 October 2026 and this publication will be updated in due course to reflect any relevant changes.
