CAP 1926 is therefore a key enabler in managing the transition from routes and procedures based on conventional ground-based navigation aids, to a system predicated on PBN operations. It has been developed in acknowledgement that FMS Coded Overlays are commonly applied today as an operating technique and whilst the technique is not a substitute for PBN operations, it is recognised as having similarities in terms of how the onboard FMS/Area navigation system is used.
