This paper reports on the application of advanced anomaly detection (AAD) techniques successfully developed and demonstrated on HUMS data for helicopter transmissions, reported in CAA Paper 2011/01, to the analysis of HUMS vibration health monitoring data for helicopter tail rotors currently collected in-service.

The study focuses on three tail rotor failures for which data is available, and also a database of historical Bristow Helicopters Eurocopter AS332L IHUMS data. This work builds on the investigation of the extension of HUMS to helicopter rotors reported in CAA Paper 2008/05
