This paper comprises two parts. The first reports on the validation of the turbulence criterion developed for operations to offshore platforms (see CAA Paper 2004/03) using archive wind tunnel data and operational data collected via Bristow Helicopters helicopter operations monitoring programme (HOMP). The second part covers the review of the CAP 437 0.9 m/s vertical wind component criterion which, ultimately, provided the justification for its removal.
