Aviation can affect the environment close to where aircraft operate. Noise from take-off, landing and overflight can disturb daily life, especially near busy airports. Aircraft engines and airport activities contribute to local air pollution, which can affect health and air quality in surrounding communities. Airports and their infrastructure can also affect local habitats and biodiversity, both directly, through land use changes; and indirectly, through noise, light, and emissions. The CAA works with government, industry, and communities to measure and report these impacts, ensure they are considered in decision-making, and promote measures that reduce or mitigate them.
