The presence of emerging aviation technologies is an expanding area of aviation. It includes Unmanned Aviation Systems (UAS) which are also known as drones, Urban Air Mobility (UAM) aircraft, including air taxis, and sometimes referred to as Unmanned Aerial vehicles (UAVs), as well as electric Vertical Take-Off and Landing vehicles (eVTOLs).

This new technology presents new challenges for noise legislation and understanding of how these types of noise sources may impact people on the ground. This report provides a concise overview of the current knowledge on the impacts of aviation noise from such new technologies on humans over the past year from 2023 to March 2024.

It follows our earlier report, published as CAP2505 which set out an overview of the knowledge on the impact of drone noise on humans over the past few years to the start of 2023.
