UK-EU Transition

References to EU regulation or EU websites in our guidance will not be an accurate description of your obligations or rights under UK law.

Enquiries/complaints concerning aircraft flying to or from a specific airport should be directed to the airport concerned. They will be best placed to provide information on their operations and may be able to take action if the aircraft is flying in breach of their noise abatement procedures. We’ve included contacts for the larger airports on this page. Details for smaller aerodromes are usually available online.

An airport’s operating hours and other noise restrictions are often set out in the planning agreement so your local planning authority may be able to provide more information about restrictions that are in place.

If a particular aircraft is causing noise nuisance but is not breaching the Rules of the Air we don’t have legal power to restrict its activity. We advise that if possible you contact the operator of the aircraft. If you know the registration of the aircraft, you’ll find the owner’s name and address on our aircraft database. UK registrations begin with a G- followed by four more letters.

We have no authority over military aviation in the UK. To register an enquiry/complaint about military aircraft activities, please call the Ministry of Defence on 0845 600 7580 or click for more information about low flying military aircraft.
