UK Civil Aviation Authority publishes ATOL September renewal figures
A total of 1624 businesses in the travel sector are currently licensed under the ATOL scheme according to new figures released by the UK Civil Aviation Authority.
The regulator, which oversees the financial protection scheme for flight-inclusive package holidays, has published the figures following its completion of the September 2026 ATOL licence renewal.
Of the 1,042 ATOL licences that were due to expire on 30 September, 951 have been renewed, with a further 42 still in the application process or yet to meet licence conditions.
The latest figures from the Civil Aviation Authority show that 20 million passengers have enjoyed an ATOL protected holiday this year (up until the end of August 2026) flat to slightly up on the previous year.
The latest top 10 ATOL holders report is available on the UK Civil Aviation Authority website.
Cecile Durand-Agbo, Head of ATOL Licensing at the Civil Aviation Authority, said:
“ATOL continues to provide an important safeguard for holidaymakers, giving millions of passengers the reassurance that their money is protected when booking holidays.
“It is important that licence holders plan ahead and submit renewal applications in good time. Early engagement helps ensure a smooth renewal process, while businesses that fail to allow reasonable time to apply by the deadline risk being unable to take ATOL protected bookings.”
