BCAR Section L examinations

The CAA no longer supports an exam system to support an application for a BCAR licence.

Instead, applicants must hold a B1.2 licence with full group 3 type rating and then apply for a BCAR licence.

Licence conversion to a BCAR licence requires an oral examination with the UK CAA and submission of supporting work records.

For further information submit your requirement to ELDWEB@caa.co.uk and include you current UK Part 66 licence number.

Technical review requests

Candidates and Approved Training Organisations (ATOs) may raise concerns or challenge the accuracy and effectiveness of an examination question, paper, or supporting materials. The CAA thoroughly reviews all such instances via the following two protocols and results may be amended where genuine issues are identified.

Examination performance management programme

To maintain the integrity and effectiveness of the examination content.

This includes:

  • routine review of all presented questions,
  • statistical analysis,
  • trend monitoring of question results,
  • a review of all candidate comments.

Candidates are able to make comments during an examination.

Entering a comment during the examination does not constitute a Full Review but every comment is reviewed by the CAA.

Full review

A candidate can request a Full Review which is a comprehensive investigation into the accuracy and integrity of examination content and materials delivered to the candidate during a specific test.

  • The Full Review must be formally instructed by the candidate by requesting a "Review" in their results portal page.
  • It must be requested within 14 calendar days of the examination in question.

The full examination review fee should be paid by the candidate at the time of request , which is fully refundable if an error is found and the candidate marks are adjusted accordingly.

The CAA endeavours to complete this service within 10 working days of receipt of the request. A message notification, explaining the findings and closing actions will be added to the 'User Messages' area in the candidate e-Exam portal.

Exam credit extensions

Part 66 basic examinations have a 10-year validity period in accordance with Part 66.A.25(d). In extenuating circumstances, upon application, the CAA may extend this period.

Any extension will only be granted where there has not been a divergence between the exam syllabus when the exam was undertaken and when the credit is applied for. Where a divergence exists the exam module or sub-modular exam will be required.

Credits will be extended for an appropriate period decided by the CAA.

Only Part 66 basic examinations that were issued by a UK Part 147 or by the CAA are eligible for extension.

Type training certificates cannot be extended as this is not supported by regulation.

To apply for an exam credit please use the link below.

Please note there is a fee of £165.00.
