From 1 April 2026 a charge will apply to applications for Cargo Transfer Screening Exemption. Details of these charges are set out in the 2026/27 CAA Aviation Security Scheme of Charges.
Overview
Air carriers directed by the Secretary of State for Transport under Part 2 of the Aviation Security Act 1982 (as amended) who are in receipt of the UK National Aviation Security Programme (NASP) may be eligible to apply for a Cargo Transfer Screening Exemption. The details of who can apply and under what circumstances are set out in the NASP.
Exemptions will only be granted if, on the basis of a risk assessment, the Department for Transport (DfT), on behalf of the Secretary of State, is satisfied that the cargo is appropriately secured in another host state and protected.
Application charge
The application charge for a Cargo Transfer Screening Exemption is set out in the CAA Aviation Security Scheme of Charges.
A charge applies for each application submitted.
The charge covers the cost of the CAA processing your application, including:
- Reviewing your application and documents
- Any follow up questions or clarification required to accurately assess the security controls and processes detailed within your application
- Undertaking a risk assessment and making a recommendation to DfT on the appropriateness of a Cargo Transfer Screening Exemption based on the information provided
- Communicating the outcome of the application
Submission of an application does not guarantee that an exemption will be granted.
How to apply?
You will need to:
- Submit the relevant application form (SRG1735) and pay the appropriate fee.
- Once your application and payment have been received you will be contacted to send the relevant supporting documentation to us via Egress.
How long will it take?
Once your application has been received and payment has been made:
- You will receive an email confirmation that your application has been submitted to the relevant team for processing
- Your initial application will be reviewed, and you will be contacted to arrange for your supporting documentation to be securely sent to us
- We aim to communicate the decision within 40 working days although in some cases this can be extended longer where required information takes longer to obtain
- If your request is approved, you will receive written confirmation.
