All ATOL holders are required to appoint an Accountable Person who must be a statutory director, a sole trader or a partner in a partnership. This person is responsible for making sure the ATOL holder complies with the ATOL Regulations, the ATT Regulations and the terms and conditions of its ATOL.
It is important for all Accountable Persons to understand their responsibilities to ensure there is maximum compliance across the industry and to ensure consumers know when they are protected by the ATOL scheme. Accountable Persons play an important role in maintaining a high level of consumer confidence in the travel industry.
The CAA may require you to re-take the course from time to time, in particular if there have been changes to the ATOL Regulations and the ATOL Standard Terms.

Online training Course
To assist Accountable Persons in understanding what they need to know to fulfil the role, the CAA has developed an online training course, which all Accountable Persons are required to successfully complete.
All Accountable Persons will be provided with logon details for the course, which can be accessed below:
This website enables authorised users to log in to a secure area to complete the Accountable Person online training course. For security reasons the learning management system only permits a limited number of logon attempts before an account is locked.

Please see below for further information on the Accountable Person training course.
What is the course format and how long will it take to complete?
The course comprises 6 topics and should take an hour or two to complete, depending on how familiar you are with the subjects covered. At the end of the course there is a short multiple choice test with randomly picked questions so that you, and the CAA, can assess your understanding of the course content.
What are the course topics?
There are 6 topics providing an overview of what you need to know to ensure the ATOL holder complies with the ATOL Regulations, the ATT Regulations and the terms and conditions of its ATOL. The course does not cover everything and it is your responsibility to make sure you are familiar with all requirements and obligations. The course covers areas such as:
- Who is allowed to sell flights and holidays and what type of sales must be protected by ATOL
- Selling through agents
- What information must be given to consumers, including the requirements for ATOL Certificates, terms & conditions and advertising
- What must be reported to the CAA and when, including APC, financial information, changes to the business and the importance of monitoring your sales
- The requirements for your business systems and what records you must keep
What is the test and what happens if I fail it?
The test is made up of 21 randomly picked questions, covering each of the 6 topics in the course. In order to pass the test, you must correctly answer sufficient questions on each topic. For example, you might be presented with 4 questions on the subject covered in topic 1 and you must correctly answer at least 3 out of the 4 questions in order to pass that topic.
At the end of the test you will be told which of the 6 topics you have passed and which (if any) you have failed. You will be prompted to read any failed topic/s again then answer a few more questions on the failed topic/s. There is no limit to the amount of times you may take the test before passing.
If you wish to discuss any part of the course content before taking the test, please contact us; we will be happy to explain any part of it to you.
