Information about the UK's implementation of new ICAO SIDSTAR phraseology.

In 2016, ICAO published Amendment 7 to PAN- ATM (Doc 4444) which introduced changes to standard instrument departure (SID) and standard instrument arrival (STAR) procedures, primarily through the use of new standardised phraseology.

Whilst the CAA’s long-term aspiration is to implement ICAOs revised SID and STAR phraseology and procedures, this will need to be linked to planned airspace changes to allow efficient and effective implementation of amended SID/STARs within UK airspace. You can find details on the current UK SID/STAR phraseology and procedures in the following documents:

CAP 413 - Chapter 6: Approach Phraseology, para 6.2

AIP - The UK difference is listed in AIP Gen 1.7, page GEN 1.7-55.

Details on SID/STAR procedures can be found in Section 3: Chapter 1: Approach Control, para 20.6

Whilst the aspiration is for worldwide change, this has currently been implemented in some countries but not others. Pilots who wish to review details for other countries should refer to the AIP for the nation in question.
