SBAS (Satellite Based Augmentation System) is an ICAO standardized wide area GNSS augmentation system in which the user receives augmentation information from a satellite-based transmitter.
 
A globally unique SBAS channel number between 40,000 and 99,999 must be published on any chart that includes Localizer Performance with Vertical Guidance (LPV) or Localizer Performance (LP) minima. With the increasing number of States developing SBAS procedures, there was a need for a globally unique SBAS channel assignment system to avoid duplication. In 2019 ICAO launched the SBAS CAT (Channel Assignment Tool), a global reservation system that allows ICAO’s 193 Member States the reservation and allocation of SBAS channel numbers. This central management and distribution platform will meet the needs of States to support efficient and safe implementation of unique SBAS channel numbers in GNSS-based approach procedures.
 
The UK CAA are the nominated focal point for SBAS Channel Allocation in the UK and APDOs wishing to develop SBAS procedures must follow this process making use of the UK Duplicate SBAS Channel Spreadsheet where appropriate.

  • PANS Aircraft Operations, Volumes I, II.
