UK Regulation (EU) No. 1321/2014 determines the rules for the continuing airworthiness and maintenance of aircraft subject to UK regulation. Part M Subpart G of this regulation concerns the management of continuing airworthiness of Part 21 aircraft.
Organisations approved to Part M Subpart G can additionally be approved to make recommendations to a competent authority that an Airworthiness Review Certificate (Form 15a) may be issued or in certain cases issue and extend an Airworthiness Review Certificate (Form 15b) under the terms of their approval.
Part M Subpart G organisations holding the Airworthiness Review privilege may also be approved to issue Permits to Fly in accordance with Part 21 Subpart P when the aircraft is in conformity with the approved Flight Conditions. Please note: this privilege does not allow the Part M Subpart G organisation to approve the Flight Conditions.
There are two elements of a Part M Subpart G approval:
- Those associated with the aircraft registrations listed on the organisation's Air Operators Certificate (AOC) and covering the continuing airworthiness management of commercial air transport (CAT) aircraft.
- Those associated with the continuing airworthiness management of aircraft not involved in commercial air transport (non-CAT), as listed on their Part M Subpart G approval certificate.
Organisations must ensure that both aspects of their approval are changed (the AOC and Part MG).
Who can apply?
An organisation with their principal place of business located in the UK that wishes to carry out the management of continuing airworthiness management of Part 21 aircraft.
Organisations with their principal place of business located outside the UK, including the Channel Islands, should apply directly to EASA.
Organisations needing to change a Registered Company or Limited Liability Partnership (LLP) Number will require a new initial approval as it cannot be classed as a change to an existing approval. See CAP 562, Leaflet C-30 for further information.
If adding an aircraft which falls within a generic aircraft group that you already hold on your approval certificate (e.g. Piston engine aeroplanes – metal structure not exceeding 5700 kg) then you should email an exposition amendment to email@example.com or attach/upload the draft exposition to the online application form (where applicable). Please do not send to your surveyor directly as it will delay your application processing.
The information below explains how to make changes to an existing 'standalone' Part M Subpart G approval for aircraft that are not involved in commercial air transport (non-CAT):
You can complete the remove ratings and facilities form provided that these are the only changes you are making to the approval. There is no charge for this service but you will need to provide a copy of your amended exposition.
In cases where an organisation holds more than one approval and requires to make an application for a change of address which will affect each approval held, you can complete the change of address form which will cater for both BCAR approvals and approvals within the scope of UK Regulation (EU) 2018/1139 and its delegated and implementing act. (You will need to provide a copy of your amended expositions).
Changes to the key personnel in an organisation must be notified to CAA.
Please ensure that the CAA policy on fitness of character is fully understood before submission of an application.
You can add or remove/change the details of one or several people, including identifying their role(s) and the types of approval(s) they have responsibility for, by completing the Change of Accountable Manager or Nominated Postholder form. This form caters for both BCAR approvals and approvals within the scope of UK Regulation (EU) 2018/1139 and its delegated and implementing act. There is no charge for changes of personnel.
Please note that for changes of Nominated Postholders, a Form 4 (SRG1705) will need to be completed and attached to the application.

How long will it take to process my application?
When A&A receive the recommendation the approval certificates will be raised and sent to your organisation within 20 working days.

How long is it valid for?
Approvals remain valid unless cancelled, suspended or revoked.
Once granted an approval requires a recommendation for continuation every 24 months from the date of issue.
This is raised by the CAA Surveyor following a satisfactory audit programme.
- A completed online application form submitted by an authorised representative of the company e.g. the Accountable Manager or Quality Manager.
- If applicable an Form 4 for all nominated personnel, including Airworthiness Review staff
- Draft of the organisation's Continuing Airworthiness Management Exposition(CAME).
(Organisations wishing to gain the privilege carry out Airworthiness Reviews in accordance with M.A.711(b) and issue Permits to Fly in accordance with point M.A.711(c) should include the relevant procedures / supplements in the exposition).
- A Part M Subpart G Compliance Checklist
- A completed CAA Regulation (EU) No 376/2014 Compliance Checklist
- A completed organisation internal Audit Report (including objective evidence) to confirm the organisation is complaint and ready for the CAA audit
- Applications for Maintenance Programme approval
- Any contracts for continuing airworthiness tasks being carried out by organisations working under the applicants quality system.
- A completed SRG 1760 form (Principal Place of Business Key Facts form) if your organisation is trading as a registered company and the change affects the location of your principal place of business.
- A copy of the company Certificate of Incorporation if your organisation is trading as a registered company
- Payment of the relevant fee (see costs)
- An automated email confirming receipt of your Online application
- A Technical Support Officer will make an initial assessment of your application and CAME and will contact you with any queries.
- The Resource Management Team will contact you to arrange for an Airworthiness Surveyor to carry out the on-site audit. Any questions regarding the scheduling of your on site visit can be directed to the Resource Management Team at 01293 573600.
- An Airworthiness Surveyor will conduct an audit against the requirements and raise an audit report detailing any findings.
- The Airworthiness Surveyor will review the nominated personnel. Interviews for key personnel may be carried out.
- The Airworthiness Surveyor will assess the supporting documentation; Technical Logs, Maintenance Contracts (as applicable) and Maintenance Programmes. When able to, the Airworthiness Surveyor will approve the supporting documentation.
- If findings have been raised the organisation should address the findings and notify the Airworthiness Surveyor of the actions taken.
- Once any audit findings relating to the initial application have been closed the Airworthiness Surveyor will submit a recommendation to A & A for the issue of the approval.
- When A&A receive the recommendation the approval certificates will be raised and sent to your organisation within 20 working days.
- On receipt of the certificates, your organisation can begin undertaking and releasing work.
