The CAA is required by law to maintain the Registers of Births, Deaths and Missing Persons on UK Registered Aircraft. Unlike the UK Register of Civil Aircraft please note that these registers are not in the public domain. There are various regulations relating to the procedure to be followed if a birth or death occurs on a UK Registered aircraft. Similar provisions exist if a person goes missing following an accident on a UK Registered aircraft. To view a guide to the legislative requirements see CAA Doc 208.

Notification of Missing Persons on UK Registered Aircraft

The Regulations regarding the registration of Births, Deaths and Missing Persons are laid down in the Civil Aviation (Births, Deaths and Missing. Persons) Regulations, 1948, as amended, made pursuant to Section 83 of the Civil Aviation Act, 1982. To view a guide to the legislative requirements see CAA Doc 208.

In general terms, if a person goes missing where there are reasonable grounds for believing that they have died as a consequence of an accident to a UK Registered aircraft, anywhere in the world, the owner of the aircraft needs to notify the CAA by completing the Notification of Missing Persons form and returning it to the Aircraft Registration Section.
