The UK Civil Aviation Authority has announced the appointment of Manny Lewis as Non-Executive Director leading on people, change and business excellence. In his position on the Board, Manny will provide independent counsel to the Civil Aviation Authority's executive team and will provide a vital role in helping the organisation to deliver its strategic objectives going forward.

This appointment, alongside the Safety and Audit Non-Executive Directors will provide the skills and bandwidth for the board to develop in Civil Aviation Authority growth areas such as space, artificial intelligence and change management.

Manny brings with him a wide array of skills and experience having worked in numerous high-profile positions across the public sector and local government, including Watford Borough Council, Essex Partnership University Foundation NHS Trust and Habinteg Housing Association.

Commenting, Manny, said: “I am delighted to be joining the Civil Aviation Authority Board at a time of rapid technological change and with significant environmental and social challenges across the aviation and aerospace sector.”

Sir Stephen Hillier, Chair of UK Civil Aviation Authority, said:

“The Civil Aviation Authority works hard to safeguard consumers and enable thriving aviation and aerospace sectors. To be successful, we need not only specialist aerospace expertise, but also a wide and diverse range of other perspectives and experiences. Manny will help bring that to the Board's discussions and decisions and I'm delighted to welcome him to the Civil Aviation Authority.”

Grant Shapps, Secretary of State for Transport added:

“It's fantastic to welcome Manny Lewis as the newest Civil Aviation Authority Non-Executive Director. He will bring fresh perspectives and invaluable insights to the regulator with his extensive experience in the public sector and local government.

“This appointment will help the Civil Aviation Authority navigate the challenges ahead during a period of significant change as the sector continues to recover following the pandemic.”

Manny has been appointed for a period of three years, starting in October.
