Under the Air Navigation Order 2016, microlight and SLMG class ratings (regardless of the licence they are included in) are required to be maintained on a 24 month validity period cycle, as set out in Chapter 2 of Part 3 of Schedule 8. References to the validity provisions set out in Section 1 of Part C of Schedule 7 to the Air Navigation Order 2009 have been removed. This exemption allows the specified licence holders to maintain a microlight or SLMG class rating under the Air Navigation Order 2009 arrangements set out in Section 1 of Part C of Schedule 7. This allows the use of the previous ‘5 hours in 13 months’ flight experience and validity arrangement, or the option to obtain a ‘certificate of test’ with a 13 month validity period.
