CAA launched flying programme on Monday 2 October to bring 110,000 people back to the UK in response to Monarch Airlines administration
After NINE DAYS:468 flights operated, 90,000 customers have returned back to the UK
DAY TEN (Wednesday 11 October): 30 flights planned, bringing back more than 5,200 passengers to the UK
Over 80 per cent of passengers are now back in the UK
Main flying programme ends on Sunday 15 October
The Civil Aviation Authority's flying programme completed 22 flights during its ninth day of operation on Tuesday, returning a further 5,272 people to the UK.
Unfortunately, as with the rest of the aviation industry, our operation experienced significant disruption due to industrial action by French air traffic controllers, which caused four flights to be cancelled.
While this action was totally outside of our control, and we recognise the impact this has had on passengers, we did everything possible to support passengers flying back to the UK.
With five days remaining and approximately 20,000 passengers still to return to the UK, the CAA is working around the clock to deliver its flying programme following the administration of Monarch Airlines.
On Wednesday 11 October, day ten of the flying programme, the CAA plans to operate 30 flights, for over 5,200 people planning to return to the UK.
Andrew Haines, Chief Executive of the CAA, said:
“Our two week flying programme to bring home 110,000 people from across the Mediterranean and beyond remains on course, however, like other airlines, some flights experienced significant disruption due to the French air traffic control strike.
“While this disruption was totally outside of our control, I can reassure passengers that we are doing everything within our power to deliver an efficient service.
“The CAA continues to work around the clock, in conjunction with the Government, to deliver our replacement flying programme. Our main flight programme finishes on Sunday 15 October and there is information on our website to assist those due to fly back to the UK after that date.”
