FAQ Answer

I live outside the published 57 dBA contour and I am overflown; I can hear aircraft and it annoys me - how is this possible?

Contours depict average noise levels over an area, so even if you are outside the 57 dBA contour you may still be overflown and hear aircraft. Furthermore, as the 57 dBA threshold is based on the average community response, it is possible that an individual may be annoyed at lower noise levels (or not annoyed at all by noise at levels higher than the 57 dBA 16-hr Leq).
