The CAA has a sustainability objective as part of its five-year Strategic Plan to ‘To improve environmental performance through more efficient use of airspace and make an efficient contribution to reducing the aviation industry’s environmental impacts.’

Recent progress
Following a public consultation in early 2012 CAA has launched a four-year programme to help improve aviation's environmental performance and allow the sector to grow sustainably. CAA and the Environment sets out the CAA's activities over the next four years to facilitate, advise, influence and regulate the aviation sector so its environmental impacts can be reduced:

Environment Panel
The CAA has set up an Environment Panel to assist the CAA in meeting its strategic environmental objective. The Environment Panel will provide external review, advice and challenge to the CAA in meeting the objectives of its environmental programme. The Panel will meet twice a year and consist of seven experts representing a range of stakeholder organisations.
