Under the Civil Aviation Act 2012 the CAA has a new set of powers to tailor regulation to suit the specifics of each airport and the needs of their users. The CAA is consulting on its initial proposals for the economic regulation of Stansted from April 2014.

The CAA found that Stansted did not pass the market power test for passenger airlines and does not need a licence for this market. The CAA is considering whether Stansted meets the market power test for cargo airlines.
