13 September 2011
The CAA hosted a Safety Management Systems (SMS) Conference on 13 September 2011. This was an opportunity for large and small fixed-wing Commercial Air Transport operators to share their experiences of implementing SMS and for the CAA to provide the delegates with an overview of its oversight of SMS.
EASA Implementing Rules (IRs) became law on 8 April 2012, and introduced a requirement for AOC holders to have a 'Management System' which delivers safety management throughout its organisation. To assist with the development of an SMS the CAA wanted to share operators' experiences to help the operators' understanding of SMS so that they can get the most value out of it.
Dame Deirdre Hutton, CAA Chair, gave the Keynote Address in recognition of the importance of effective SMS implementation.
Further information on SMS can be found on the SMS webpage.
