Welcome to the CAA Human Factors portal

An effective aviation safety system requires a proactive and coherent approach to human performance in partnership with the UK aviation industry. This is brought into sharper focus when considering the opportunities that exist to contribute to International and European rulemaking and guidance material in a manner that seeks to preserve and enhance safety performance.

Human Factors Review Phase Two Report Published!

The HF Review Phase Two report is now available (see link opposite).  It presents an overview of HF in UK civil aviation today and is the result of work undertaken by the CAA with input from a cross-section of UK industry stakeholders.  Getting to this stage of the Review has taken longer than expected owing to the overwhelming degree of engagement and support, for which the Review Team is most grateful.  The eight statements and thirteen opportunities expressed provide a foundation from which the CAA, in partnership with UK industry, can develop a comprehensive and coordinated strategy for HF in UK civil aviation.

A package of practical and sustainable measures will be sought during Phase Three (options generation) to assist organisations and individuals in better assessing risk and to enhance safety performance through a more integrated approach to HF.
