The CAA preparations for the London Olympics and Paralympics 2012
The CAA is working with passengers, Government and industry to ensure that our role in the 2012 London Olympics and Paralympics is managed in a safe and effective way.
Aviation activity is expected to increase significantly over the period of the games and the CAA will ensure that a high standard of aviation safety continues to be maintained throughout this period. No fundamental regulatory changes have been made, however, a change to the use of airspace will be in place during the games.
The UK Government has made the delivery of a safe and secure Olympic and Paralympic Games a paramount objective. As a result the Government has indicated that airspace restrictions will be placed around all Games venues. A new website has been established, Airspace Safety, where full details of the restrictions can be found.
For most of the regulated industry it is business as usual for the Olympic Period and the established contact points should be used for any questions or queries. The CAA is implementing plans to ensure that our service levels are maintained throughout the period, with particular reference to the predicted impact on our London based staff.
The CAA has been working closely with the major airports in the South, which are expected to handle the increased numbers of visitors to the UK, both competitors or spectators at the games. Visit the airport websites for the latest developments at these airports.
Your passenger rights remain unaffected during the period of the games, if you do need any advice or assistance please take a look at the Information for Passengers section of our website.
