The CAA Regional Offices are part of the Safety Regulation Group's Airworthiness Division Survey Department. Regional Office staff can include Airworthiness Surveyors, Flight Operations Inspectors, Aerodrome Inspectors, Air Traffic Inspectors, their respective managers and associated staff. A wide range of tasks are undertaken, including:

• The physical survey of aircraft
  
  
• Investigation, approval and ongoing oversight of Air Operator Certificate holders, maintenance organisations and production organisations
  
  
• The issue and renewal of Certificates of Airworthiness and Permits to Fly
  
  
• Inspection and approval of aircraft modifications and repairs
  
  
• Investigation of Mandatory Occurrence Reports
  
  
• The examination of aircraft maintenance engineers

Where Aerodrome or Air Traffic Inspectors are located in a Regional Office, their role focuses on the oversight of local aerodromes and air traffic services.
