Dangerous Goods Update Seminar 2012

The CAA's Dangerous Goods Office held a seminar for industry on 13 September 2012. The seminar updated those present on the changes to the ICAO Technical Instructions that will be introduced from January 2013 as well as other areas of relevance. Below are copies of the presentations that were used:

Morning Session

The morning session reviewed the main changes to the requirements from 2013, including those regarding lithium batteries and dangerous goods in the post, together with details of significant dangerous goods incidents within the previous two years. Also included was a presentation by Dave Brennan, Assistant Director Cargo Safety & Standards at IATA, concerning IATA's involvement in the dangerous goods requirements and the role of the IATA Dangerous Goods Board.

Afternoon Session - Fixed-Wing Operators

This session was for fixed-wing operators, handling agents and other related organisations, covering aspects relevant to them, including on-line passenger information, common audit findings and audit responses, incident reporting and electronic mobility aids.

Afternoon Session - Helicopter Operators

This session was specifically for helicopter operators and in addition to the information covered in the session for fixed-wing operators, but also included details of the changes to the dangerous goods requirements specific to helicopter operations.

Afternoon Session - Trainers

This session was for CAA-approved dangerous goods training companies and their instructors and covered competency-based training, the process of re-approving training programmes, a review of CAA exam papers and the marking of them, and common findings during instructor observations.
