Sponsorship of the Civil Aviation Authority
The Department for Transport has published a Sponsorship Statement and Directions for the Civil Aviation Authority.
The Sponsorship Statement sets out the relationship between the Secretary of State for Transport and the CAA, the framework within which the CAA operates, the financial conditions and other guidance relevant to the exercise of its functions, and how the CAA will be held to account for these. It has been drawn up by the Department for Transport in consultation with the CAA.

Chicago Convention
The Department for Transport has given Directions to the CAA regarding the discharge of the United Kingdom obligations under the Convention on International Civil Aviation done in Chicago on 7 December 1944 (“the Chicago Convention”). The Department for Transport has given Directions to the CAA regarding its air navigation functions.

Air Safety Support International
The DfT has also published Directions concerning the establishment and responsibilities of Air Safety Support International. ASSI ensure that the United Kingdom discharges its obligations under the Convention on International Civil Aviation done in Chicago on 7 December 1944 ("the Chicago Convention") in respect of the Overseas Territories.
