The CAA's Safety Regulation Group (SRG) has a fundamental role of setting safety standards and ensuring that these are met.

Any occurences with possible safety implications are closely scrutinsed so that SRG can be confident that the highest practicable levels of safety are achieved.  

All parts of the 'aviation system' are closely monitored, this includes:

• the design, manufacture, operation and maintenance of aircraft,
• the operational environment including airports and air traffic control systems and
• the performance of the personnel involved.

Data is collected and analysed, and potential risks are identified. Where appropriate SRG will fund research or a specific safety initiative.
