Title:Ground-Roll Noise Modelling in the DORA Noise and Number Index Computer Model and Measurements at Heathrow and Gatwick
Description:This paper describes the result of noise measurements in the environs of the runways at Heathrow and Gatwick. It also discusses the various problems involved in computer modelling of noise exposure (through the Noise and Number Index - NNI) for the ground-roll of aircraft. The NNI is probably the major tool used in the UK for the assessment of airport development, including such planning aspects as permission for house building and the use/necessity made of noise insulation. Because of its importance it is worthwhile detailing something of the 'philosophy' inherent in the DORA noise exposure modelling.
